postcard - black and white - unveiling on Wednesday 24th May, 1911 of the plaque to Thomas Martin Southwell C.C.J.P. carpet manufacturer, on the restored North Gate by W.H. Foster Esq. of Apley Hall. The Borough surveyor's office had moved from Low Town to 2 rooms at 84 High Street, Bridgnorth in 1906. Published by Jas.T Foxall. Postern Gate, Bridgnorth - there in c.1905 until at least 1937. Farlow and Trumper give date as 1910 - incorrect, but it does say 1910 on the memorial tablet. The mayor was Enoch Sarjeant, coulcillor for Morfe ward. The rstoration of the structure was a joint enterprise between the Memorial Committee chaired by Foster of the Town Council - work by Charles Smith, builder of North Gate and cost �426.13s. 3d. Back in 1905, a report in the Journal of 15th April, 1905 that the Town Council discussed opening up of a 3rd arch (west side) - restoring the North Gate. 14th November, 1908 the Town Council took a 21 year lease on the premises occupied by Samuel Instone (butcher at 33 North Gate) in order to make these alterations, 14th August, 1909 Town Council accepted a tender of �180 for opening up the 3rd arch. 12th April 1910 Town Council agreed that the North Gate restoration be a permanent memorial to the late Thomas Martin Southwell.
