photograph - black and white - Woodman Inn, Railway Street, Bridgnorth with the Rutter family. Earliest reference to the Inn is 1839. The premises were built above caves which served as cellars and there was stabling in the yard at the rear. The lion on the pedestal is said to have come from elsewhere. The Solomon Rutter on the board belwo the 3 light window is listed as the Woodman in Trade Directories for 1905 and 1909, but not in 1901 or 1917 Directories. There were other Rutters in Listley Street, all born in Bridgnorth. Number 9, Solomon Rutter coal merchant aged 67, wife Emma aged 64 - 1901 census entry. 1891 census Solomon Rutter coalmerchant aged 54, Emma aged 52, son Solomon aged 21 and single. Number 10, Solomon Rutter dairyman aged 31, wife Mary aged 29, Elsie aged 9, Nellie aged 7, Walter aged 4 in 1901 census. Are they in the photograph ??
